Roads update

Black ice conditions on some routes into Galway city with freezing fog on the N18 Ennis Rd, N17 Tuam Rd, N6 Dublin Rd, N59 Clifden Rd M6 at Ballinasloe and the Headford Rd. Severe ice on the old N6 east of Loughrea.

Starting off cold this morning, with mist, fog and frost soon clearing. It will be mostly dry and bright with some sunny spells, however some showers will develop later in the afternoon across western areas. Cold, with highest temperatures 3 to 5 degrees, and light to moderate southwesterly breezes, increasing fresh later in the evening.

Further rain, sleet and snow this evening and for a time tonight but becoming mostly dry by morning. The snow will affect not just higher ground but occur at lower levels for a time in many inland areas. Strong and gusty southeasterly winds during the evening will moderate overnight. Lowest temperatures zero to 3 C with some frost in inland areas.

Wet and windy this afternoon and evening with the rain turning to sleet or snow in places but especially on high ground. Winds will be strong to gale force and gusty southeasterly and afternoon temperatures range from 2 to 4 Celsius.

Further outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow overnight, but not as persistent as during the day. Strong and gusty southeasterly winds moderating overnight. Lowest temperatures zero to 3 C.

Mostly dry on Wednesday and brightening but with some scattered wintry showers developing. Highest temperatures of 2 to 4 C.
